A new bow that allows users to undertake rehairs themselves

Cellist and inventor Andrew Janss developed the Arcotype self-rehairable bow after noticing a troubling pattern in music education. ‘Too often I would encounter students doing everything they could to make a good sound, but their bows had only a dozen hairs left, coated in grime,’ he recalls. ‘There’s little their teachers can do. And because rehairing done by luthiers is too expensive for most schools – and often impossible because the hair in cheap school bows is permanently glued in – it’s estimated that hundreds of thousands of bows are unnecessarily discarded each year.’…
