Spanish violinist David López Ibáñez joins the London-based quartet
The Brompton Quartet has announced Spanish violinist David López Ibáñez as its new violinist, joining violinist Mee-Hyun Esther Park, violist Edward Keenan and cellist Wallis Power. They assume the role from Slovenian violinist Maja Horvat.
Hailing from Andalucía, López Ibáñez is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Music and Fiesole School of Music, studying with Detlef Hahn, Radu Blidar, Lorenza Borrani, and period violin with Lucy Russell. They have performed as a second violinist with the Philharmonia Orchestra since 2021.
Among their accolades, López Ibáñez was a Chamber Music Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music with the Hill Quartet from 2020–22 and was the recipient of the 2019 Ian Stoutzker award from the European Union Youth Orchestra. They have also performed with the Bath Festival Orchestra, Haydn Philharmonie, Spira Mirabilis, and as a member of the Explore Ensemble.
The Brompton Quartet was formed at the Royal College of Music in 2018. It won the first prize at the 2019 St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, and was selected as a Park Lane Group Artist in 2020. Its debut album Constellations was released in March this year.
