Music at Paxton festival has announced the appointment of the Fibonacci Quartet as its new associate ensemble for 2027-29. The appointment coincides with the festival’s 20th anniversary this year.

The Fibonacci Quartet – comprising violinists Kryštof Kohout and Luna De Mol, violist Elliot Kempton and cellist Findlay Spence – were announced as YCAT artists in 2024 and won first and audience prize the Premio Paolo Borciani in the same year.

Most recently, the ensemble received a 2026 Borletti-Buitoni Trust fellowship, worth £20,000. The quartet is currently serving as Grand Résident ensemble at ProQuartet in Paris for the 2025-2027 seasons.

Alongside its performing schedule, the ensemble teaches as quartet in residence at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, as well as at the Royal Academy of Music in its position as Nina Drucker Fellows.

’We are absolutely delighted to join the Music at Paxton festival as associate ensemble for the 2027–29 seasons,’ said the members of the quartet.

’We have heard from many of our friends about the unique magic of the festival’s intimate atmosphere, and we can’t wait to immerse ourselves in this beautiful part of the world.

’We are particularly excited to build a lasting musical connection with audiences from all walks of life and share some of the music we love most in the coming years.’

Music at Paxton artist director, Angus Smith, said of the Fibonacci Quartet: ’Watching and listening to these brilliant musicians is a truly thrilling and uplifting experience and they are already looking forward to playing at Music at Paxton, and sharing their music with people of all ages in the Border community.’

Music at Paxton will take place from 17 to 26 July 2026, with this year’s festival programme to be launched on 12 April.
