Rochelle Abramson joined the orchestra in 1978 and performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician in the Los Angeles area

Violinist Rochelle Abramson died on 18 December 2025. She served as first violinist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) for 48 years, joining the orchestra in its 1978-79 season.
She received two individual artist’s grants from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department between 1992 and 1994.
Abramson was a graduate of the Juilliard School. She made her Carnegie Hall debut as winner of the Artists International Auditions. She won numerous competitions, including the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Competition, the National Stillman-Kelly Competition, and the Palm Beach Flagler-Matthews Competition.
She appeared as soloist with the LA Phil and other orchestras in the LA area. She performed as concertmaster of the Long Beach Bach Festival, the Peninsula Symphony’s annual Summer Concerts, the Carson Symphony, the San Juan Capistrano Symphony and the LA Valley College Symphony.
She appeared in concerts as a chamber musician at Barnsdall Park, the Museum of Natural History, the Bing Theater Sundays at Four series at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and at Harbor College.
The LA Phil posted a tribute to Abramson on social media: ’We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rochelle Abramson. A member of the Los Angeles Philhamonic’s first violin section for 48 years, Rochelle’s unwavering dedication and passion to the LA Phil and the violin was felt by all.
’Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, collaborators, and friends.’
