The maker presents his workshop in Bologna, where he has worked as a luthier for over 40 years

I’ve been a violin maker in Bologna for more than 40 years. In the 1970s there were only two luthiers left in the city: Ansaldo Poggi and Otello Bignami, so the whole Bolognese making tradition was in danger of being lost. So Bignami managed to secure a grant to teach young people to be violin makers, and I was one of his first students. I spent four years studying, and then another six years in Bignami’s workshop as his apprentice…
