I’ve been based at this workshop in Voss for nine years. I initially trained in Vienna as a conservator for historical musical instruments, then obtained an 18-month research scholarship at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2016 I applied for an internship at this workshop, which was run by a maker of Hardanger fiddles named Sigvald Rørlien. After working with him for a month, he offered me a job in the Hardanger fiddle workshop at the Ole Bull Academy, which is based in Voss. This included being a conservator for the academy’s collection. Then in 2019 Sigvald retired and I got to take on the workshop myself…
