The Peruvian violinist Ezequiel Amador Echegaray died on 12 September 2025 at his home in California.

Echegaray initially trained in his native Ica, Peru, before pursuing further studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima (now National University of Music, UNM) and in Vienna. 

Echegaray was a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Perú and the San Francisco Symphony. As a soloist, he performed Peru, as well as abroad in Paris, Vienna, Munich, Mexico and Brazil.

Notable soloist performances included Brahms Violin Concerto with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Perú, in commemoration of the composer’s death, as well as the world premiere of a violin concerto written for him by Peruvian composer, Francisco Pulgar Vidal.

As an educator, Echegaray was professor emeritus at his alma mater, UNM, and was on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

In recognition of his professional career, the Peruvian government named him Commander of the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services. Echegaray was also named Honorary Cultural Ambassador.
