The Italian violist has been involved with the chamber music festival for many years
The Incontri in Terra di Siena chamber music festival has announced the appointment of violist Ettora Causa as its new artistic director. Causa succeeds Alessio Bax, who has served the festival for the past decade.
The festival was founded in 1988 by cellist Antonio Lysy and Benedetta Origo, and takes place in Val d’Orcia in Tuscany, Italy. Causa has been involved with the festival for many years and shared a close artistic and personal relationship with the late founder, Lysy.
’I am deeply honoured to accept this role and look forward to building upon Incontri’s remarkable legacy while creating new opportunities for artists and audiences in the years ahead,’ said Causa.
The Italian violist was a prizewinner at the 2000 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, where he won the P. Schidlof Prize and J.Barbirolli Prize for ‘the most beautiful sound’.
Causa has performed at leading venues and festivals worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, the Zurich Tonhalle and the Salzburg Festival.
He has collaborated with many of the world’s distinguished artists and ensembles as a chamber musician and has served on the faculty of the Yale School of Music since 2009.
Causa attended the International Menuhin Music Academy, where he studied with Alberto Lysy and Johannes Eskar, and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Michael Tree.
The 39th edition of Incontri in Terra di Siena Festival will take place from 23 July to 1 August 2027.
