I love all of Beethoven’s violin sonatas, but the Tenth is very special to me. Carl Flesch mentioned that Beethoven was on a different spiritual level in this final sonata, and I agree. The atmosphere at the beginning of this sonata suggests this beautiful area of Heiligenstadt, near Vienna, where Beethoven wrote his famous testament revealing his struggle with deafness…
