Denmark’s Aalborg Symphony Orchestra has appointed Péter Lukács as its new principal violist.

Lukács was a member of the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Ossiach Orchestra Academy, and served as principal violist with Tonkünstler Vienna and the Budapest MÁV Symphony Orchestra. Between 2013 and 2018, he regularly performed as a substitute with the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lukács was born in Budapest into a third-generation family of violists. He began his university studies in Austria at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with professor Siegfried Führlinger, and later continued his studies in Germany at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. In 2011, he graduated summa cum laude from the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, where he studied with professor Felix Schwarz.

He has participated as a scholarship holder at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and won second prize at the Viola Competition in Barletta (with no first prize awarded). He was a recipient of a scholarship from the Oskar and Vera Ritter Foundation for young artists between 2007 to 2009.
