The North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (NNO) in Groningen has announced the appointment of Italian violinist Fabiola Tedesco as concertmaster.

The 28-year-old previously served as associate concertmaster of the Gürzenich-Orchester Cologne and Cologne Opera from 2022-2024 and was regularly invited to perform in the same role by WDR Sinfonieorchester (Cologne), Essener Philharmoniker, and others.

She has appeared in the same role with Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini (Parma) and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome).

Tedesco studied in Italy (Conservatorio di Torino and Accademia Perosi), Austria (Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium) and in Germany (Hochschule für Musik ’Carl Maria von Weber’ in Dresden), where she studied with Natalia Prischepenko. She participated in the Advanced Concertmaster Course at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona during the 2022/2023 season.

Tedesco commented on her move to Groningen, after many years in Germany: ’NNO has given me the welcome that I believe every concertmaster dreams of. I found an orchestra that works with passion, reactivity and openness, and we immediately established a sense of trust that I’m sure will allow us to grow together and navigate the symphonic repertoire in a brave and refreshing way.’

Marcel Mandos, artistic leader/programmer of NNO, commented on the appointment: ‘We are delighted with the appointment of Fabiola. She is a born concertmaster, a brilliant violinist and natural leader.’’

Tedesco is a laureate of numerous international competitions and has appeared as a soloïst with orchestras across Europe and Latin America. As a chamber musician, Tedesco has performed alongside artists including Giovanni Sollima, Alessandro Carbonare, Mahan Esfahani, Francesca Dego and Martin Owen.

She plays a Giuseppe Antonio Rocca violin made in Turin in 1848, generously loaned through ’Adopt a Musician’, an initiative by Music Masterpieces – Lugano (CH).
