Bulgarian violinist Chavdar Parashkevov takes up the role

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic has announced the appointment of its new concertmaster, Bulgarian violinist Chavdar Parashkevov, who will begin the role in May this year.

A graduate of the Dobri Hristov National School of Arts, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Houston, Parashkevov has studied with teachers including Peter Hristoskov, Veronica Bogaertz, Nelli Shkolnikova, Andzrej Grabiec and Albert Muenze. His accolades include first prize at competitions including the Svetoslav Obretenov National Competition, and the special Bach prize in the Young Talents Competition in Sofia.

Parashkevov currently teaches as assistant professor of violin at the Oklahoma City University. He has served on the faculty of the Round Top Festival Institute since 2022, and has performed regularly with ensembles including the Houston Ballet and Houston Grand Opera orchestras.
