The Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, has announced the appointment of Lisa Batiashvili as its new professor of violin. Batiashvili will take up the role from October 2026.

The institution additionally announced the appointments of Christian Thielemann as professor of orchestral conducting and Claudio Martinez Mehner as professor of piano.

’It fills me with great joy and gratitude to take up the professorship at the Mozarteum Salzburg from October 2026 – a place that stands not only for musical excellence, but also for a deep cultural tradition that has always inspired me,’ said Batiashvili.

’After more than 25 years on stage, I now feel the desire to give something back – my knowledge, my experience, my love for music. It is moving to meet this young, curious and lively generation, which is looking for its own way with an open heart and a fresh mind.

’I look forward to accompanying them, challenging them, encouraging them – and learning [from] them again and again myself.’

The appointments of Batiashvili, Thielemann and Mehner ’will accompany highly talented and motivated students on their way to professionalism as new university professors at the Mozarteum University Salzburg from autumn 2026, but will also play a decisive role in shaping the further development of the institution,’ said rector professor Elisabeth Gutjahr.
