The maker gives us a tour of his workshop in India

I work in this workshop with my father Murali and my brother Vijay. In general, they take care of the repair and restoration work, while I build new instruments. This workshop is around 60 sq m, and we’ve only been here for just over a year; we moved in because we needed the space on account of all the repair work we were receiving. One problem with playing the violin in India is the constantly high level of humidity, which can lead to severe damage in instruments. For that reason, we keep a dehumidifier going in the workshop at all times, and the humidity level is always around 70 per cent…
