The Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition has announced its results. South Korean violinist Jenny Hyeonjeong Lee, aged 15, was awarded first prize. She wins ¥2,000,000 (£9,500) and a loan of the 1697 ‘Rainville’ Stradivari violin. She also won the Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra Prize.

Second prize was awarded to South Korean violinist Jooha Choi. She receives ¥1,000,000 (£4,750) and a loan of the 1764 Michael Angelo Bergonzi ‘Mintz’ violin. She also won the Audience Prize. South Korean Haewon Lim won the ¥500,000 (£2,400) third prize as well as a loan of a 1765 Nicolò Gagliano violin. 

The ¥300,000 (£1,400) fourth prize and ¥200,000 (£1,000) fifth prize were awarded to Chinese violinists Meng Zou and Zhiyuan Qian respectively. 

Jenny Hyeonjeong Lee, who was born in December 2010, started playing the violin at the age of six and made her debut with a recital at Yeongsan Yangjae Hall at the age of nine. She won first prize at the 2022 Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young Violinists, second prize at the 2024 George Enescu International Competition and the overall grand prize and a scholarship at the Rising Stars Grand Prix International Music Competition Berlin.

In 2023, she gave her first international debut recital at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg and has performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and the GIMPO Philharmonic Orchestra.

The 2026 Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition’s jury was chaired by Pierre Amoyal and comprised vice chairperson Kazuki Sawa, Koichiro Harada, Salt Chaoyang Lin, Kimiko Nakazawa, Machie Oguri and Sungsic Yang.
