Violinist’s dislocated shoulder forces cancellation of the ensemble’s sold-out 23 September concert
The Danish Quartet has been forced to cancel its sold-out 23 September concert at London’s Wigmore Hall after violinist Frederik Øland sustained a dislocated shoulder.
The quartet wrote on social media, accompanied by a photograph of Øland with his left arm in a sling: ‘We are heartbroken to announce that we have to cancel the concert at Wigmore Hall tonight. Few things are worse than cancelling concerts, but Frederik suffered a dislocated shoulder yesterday and is unable to play. We are working hard to find a new date for us to return and we apologise for the trouble this brings and to everyone who got tickets for tonight. We’ll do everything to make it up to you.’
The quartet was scheduled to play a programme including Schubert’s String Quintet in C major with Finnish cellist Johannes Rostamo, alongside the UK premiere of a new work by Thomas Adès.
The Strad wishes Øland a speedy recovery.
