According to a report by Info Edmonton Magazine, violinist Broderyck Olson will be retiring from the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) after a tenure of 65 years. He joined the first violin section in 1961 and was appointed as assistant concertmaster in 1966. His father, violinist Ray LeRoy Olson, was a founding member of the orchestra when it began in 1952.

Olson studied with teachers including Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, Tadeusz Wronski at the Indiana School of Music, and Thomas Rolston and Lawrence Fisher at the University of Alberta.

Highlights of his career with the ESO include the 1971 performance and recording with Procol Harum, and performing in all 48 concerts for ITV’s In Concert series.

‘Few musicians have the opportunity to devote 65 years of their lives to a single orchestra,’ said Jean-Marie Zeitouni, the ESO’s music director. ‘On behalf of everyone at the ESO, I thank him for his extraordinary contribution and wish him every happiness in retirement.’
