The violinist and conductor receives the violin from the Anders Sveaas Charitable Foundation’s extensive collection of Stradivari instruments

The violinist and conductor Pekka Kuusisto has received the 1695 ‘Sandars’ Stradivari violin, on loan from the Anders Sveaas Charitable Foundation (ASAF).
Kuusisto previously performed on the c.1709 ‘Scotta’ Stradivari violin. He receives the ‘Sandars’ Stradivari from ASAF, which currently owns eleven instruments made by Antonio Stradivari, making it one of the world’s largest collections of instruments from the maker.
Now in its 35th year, ASAF lends instruments from its collection, which also includes instruments by makers such as Guadagnini, Amati, Ruggieri and Montagnana, to Norwegian and Nordic musicians.
ASAF’s artistic director, Peter Herresthal, commented: ‘It’s fantastic to have one of today’s most exciting and creative star violinists in our roster of players. We look forward to supporting the journey that the incomparable Pekka Kuusisto and this incredible instrument will embark upon together.’
Other recent new members of the trust and recipients of instruments include violinist Frederik Øland from the Danish Quartet, violinist Alma Kraggerud and cellist Birgitta Oftestad.
