The Australian violinist, who turns 18 next week, will play on the 1699 ‘Crespi’ Stradivari violin

Australian violinist Christian Li has received the 1699 ’Crespi’ Stradivari violin on long-term loan.
The young violinist, who will turn 18 next week, launched his international career with a joint first-prize victory in the junior category at the 2018 Menuhin Competition, aged ten. He became the youngest-ever artist to sign with Decca Classics aged twelve in 2020, and recorded his debut album of Vivaldi, Zili, Kreisler, Massenet and Bazzini.
Li is currently the Young Artist in Association with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, a title he has held since 2021.
Li commented on his new acquisition: ’I am deeply honoured and overjoyed to be loaned this precious 1699 Stradivari violin! I am sincerely grateful to its owner, Mr. David Li, for his generosity and trust, and to Beare’s International Violin Society for their invaluable support in making this possible.
’I look forward with great excitement to creating and sharing music with this extraordinary instrument in the years to come!’
David Li, the instrument’s owner and chair emeritus of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, said: ’It gives me joy and privilege to see this remarkable 1699 Stradivari violin, placed into the hands of such an extraordinary young artist as Christian Li.
’I hope it will accompany him in sharing the beauty of music with audiences around the world.’
