Lorenzo Maria Arcangioli is one of the lesser-known makers of 19th-century Italy; however, he made a number of high-quality instruments and had an interesting life. The Arcangioli were an aristocratic Tuscan family who were entitled to call themselves Nobili di Arezzo. The ‘nobility’ title was hereditary, and was most likely awarded because of the family’s merits in medicine and the church.
